As a lifelong Orangetown resident, Ray Sheridan has a vested interest in protecting our County and its residents. As a business-owner and VP of Operations, Ray is not afraid of making tough decisions and will advocate for the residents of Orangetown and Clarkstown. As a County Legislator, Ray will focus his efforts on issues of critical importance to the future of Rockland County:

Supporting County Executive Ed Day

Since taking office in 2014, County Executive Ed Day has brought stability and prosperity to Rockland County. From developing strategies to decrease and eliminate the County’s deficit, curtailing unnecessary spending, promoting measures to stop illegal housing and unsafe conditions, and supporting local businesses, Ed Day has revitalized Rockland County.

Ed Day has endorsed Ray’s candidacy and Ray will work with Ed to develop legislation to continue moving Rockland in the right direction so that the future is promising for all.

Preserving and Protecting Quality of Life

As a lifelong Rockland resident, Ray values the tranquility of our bucolic suburban county and its vibrant, strong communities. Many residents have moved to or decided to stay in Rockland, investing in their homes and properties because they believe Rockland is the best place to live, raise a family, or develop a business.

Ray wants to maintain this lifestyle for future generations and will never waiver from the goal: preserve and protect our quality of life and communities.

As we’ve seen over the past few months the migrant crisis is not going away. Ray is lockstep working with Ed Day and town supervisors to ensure Rockland does not become a sanctuary county. We will stand strong to ensure New York City and Governor Hochul does not compromise our sovereignty here in Rockland.

Supporting Law Enforcement

Ray respects law enforcement and knows the sacrifices they and their families make on a daily basis to serve our communities.

Ray KNOWS THAT TO ENSURE A BETTER AND SAFER County, WE NEED LAW ENFORCEMENT PERSONNEL TO HAVE THE TOOLS NECESSARY TO DO THEIR JOBS AND WILL BE A TIRELESS ADVOCATE FOR THE POLICE IN Rockland County.

Stopping Overdevelopment

This is no secret: overdevelopment is one of the most serious threats facing Rockland County. Overdevelopment and rampant proliferation of high-density housing benefits only one class, the developers who financially profit at the expense of everyone else. Overdevelopment threatens our quality of life, the environment, existing infrastructure, neighboring municipalities, open and green spaces, and most directly impacts those who reside in overdeveloped structures with often less-than-sanitary or -safe conditions. This threat is caused by the irresponsible actions of elected officials who unabashedly legislate while considering only the needs of special interest groups and developers. Although insulated by the philosophy of “home rule,” the County has a responsibility to monitor developments in local municipalities and respond when elected officials continue to perpetuate this threat.

RAy, who has publicly spoken out against overdevelopment in Ramapo, will continue to be a voice of reasoned, logical, and common-sense driven objection to overdevelopment in Rockland.

Zoning and Code Enforcement

A common symptom of overdevelopment is the failure of developers to follow zoning laws and local law, resulting in the construction of buildings that cannot be supported by the infrastructure and are often unsafe for residents and first responders. Zoning laws and building codes are created for a reason: to allow safe and sustainable structures to be built. Lax enforcement of these codes, along with overdevelopment, has created a culture of noncompliance and lawlessness in many parts of the County.

Ray will work with County Executive Ed Day and support County agencies who investigate and prosecute illegal housing, unsafe conditions, and protect residents and first responders.

Fiscal Responsibility & Governance

In the space of five years, our County’s deficit went from $138 million to a surplus of over $32 million in 2019. Considering the County’s extremely dire financial outlook as recently as 2014, the positive financial direction in which Rockland is trending must be maintained. Our County’s current position is the result of strong leadership, tough decision-making, and smart, effective governance.

Ray will continue to push our County in a positive direction, making decisions that are beneficial to the financial health of the County government and keep taxes down for property owners.
